An Ode To My Dad

How can one say goodbye to a piece of their heart? A part of that heart that beat next to yours for so many years? How can I let go of those large, work worn hands that could fix even the unfixable? Those same hands would gently pluck a seed of hope for the following growing season, planting promises of beautiful things to come. His loud voice  would proudly recite a beautiful verse of inspiration. In my mind I can hear it. It is still there, carrying it's message thru the window of my soul.

I reach out my hand, and his hand is not there. My hands rest by my side alone. Though my hand does not have his, my heart contains "Him", All of him. Joy, Love, Peace, Poems, Promises and an ache that is right now,  painful. I will walk thru the journey to healing my broken heart, but will never forget you.

Dad, you will be missed. You led a simple life in a complicated world which provided comfort to so many.

An Ode To My Dad~

There was an old man
by an old gate
standing within his garden.
He had worn pants and rusty tools,
A simple life was his life's rule.
Work hard and pray.
May the Good Lord Bless You
He would confidently say.
He was happy to give
and gracious to share
to him all was worthy
of his tender care.
The sun rose at dawn
with him on his knees
tending to flowers whose petals
did please.
The sun set at dusk
with him on his knees,
May the Good Lord Bless
all his good deeds.

Halloween Spun Cotton Ornament

Ever since I opened my Etsy shop, I have been happily filling it with all sorts of handmade goodies. Even though the weather is still warm and stuffy and the grass very thick and green, I find my scissors cutting through layers and layers  of black and orange crepe paper, gathering a bouquet of autumnal colors to create fluffy Halloween skirts for Halloween Paper Dolls and Spun Cotton  Ornaments. It is hard not to anticipate the arrival of cooler mornings, and earlier sunsets. Until then, I happily sew and gather through layers of black and orange crepe paper and dream of apple scented orchards and large, burly pumpkins.

Edwardian Baby Paper Doll in Blue Dress

I have been having lots of fun making paper doll ornament gift tags to add to my new Etsy shop, TinyBirdsTreasure. This sweet baby is made from a Frances Brundage clip art image. I had so much fun  dressing her in various size ribbons and lace. Her big bonnet is made with several layers of crepe paper. She is oh so precious. She would make such a nice touch on that special gift at a baby shower, or to hang from a Victorian style feather tree or just about anywhere one might like to see an adorable baby.
P.S: She is a very low maintainance baby, no colick, and even sleeps through the night :)

 

 

Pretty In Pink Paper Dolls

It has been a while since I have last posted. Summer seems to melt the days away quicker than ice cream off a cone. Since the beginning of summer, I have been happily learning the ins and outs of Etsy, and can now proudly announce that I officially have my own Etsy shoppe. http://www.etsy.com My Shoppe is TinyBirds Treasure.
This precious Lady below is from a Frances Brundage clip art image I purchased recently. She was so much fun to add all sorts of girly goodies to.
 I had a "ball" using lace, crepe paper, ribbons, feathers, roses, pearls and glitter.  I can picture her holding a special place in a novel, or adorning the top of a pretty gift, holding a special place at a ladies tea party or even hanging from a Christmas tree. Oh my, isn't she a sweetie. As you can imagine, more paper goodies are in the works.

Plan B Doll

Introducing "Lady Chatterly." Lady Chatterly is my doll that I have made for the Maida Attic Discovery Doll challenge. Lots of beautiful dolls were created for this challenge. I oohed and aahed over the gorgeous carved wooden dolls, wishing one day to find the "umph" that I need to find a block of wood and "have at it." Anyhow, I am not at that point yet. How does one satisfy the need to have their own eighteenth century style doll when one is afraid of the blade? Fabric. That is what I am comfortable with, so I decided to go for Plan B. I designed a cloth doll with an early wooden style doll in mind. "Ta da" Lady Chatterly is reminiscent of the Tuck Comb Dolls of the early 1800's and dressed in a Regency style silk(yes, only the best for this Lady)dress. I am pleased to have introduced her to the talented people in our dolls group.

As you can see she is a Lady of fine taste. Just look at that expression, make sure you are on your best behavior, mind your manners, as she has quite a discerning taste. Don't tell her any secrets, or she might just spill the beans.

Something New

Introducing my newest creation, a little softie doll. This is definately different from the primitive folk dolls that I usually make. I loved the fabric and have been looking up pictures of simple dolls and this is what turned and churned in my thoughts. Wouldn't she make a perfect for a small sweet little girl to hold onto? I am hoping to make more and put them on Etsy to sell.
